FAQ > General > Is this a junk yard, salvage yard, or automotive recycler?
John's Auto Parts is an automotive recycler. While all the terms are often used interchangeably, they do have different meanings.
A junkyard is a place where cars go to die. Usually its just a field where people started dumping cars and they just sit there to rot.
A salvage yard implies a yard that sells parts as a business. They rotate their inventory of cars available but minimal effort is put in to the process of handing the cars.
An automotive recycling facility dismantles wrecked/worn out cars in a safe method to extract their useable components. All fluids are drained, hazardous materials are removed, quality parts are removed for resale, and the hulk is placed in our yard to be picked clean before being crushed for recycling. Nearly everything on a car is sold or recycled, there is no toxic hazard to the environment from an automotive recycler using best business practices. We pass our environmental audits with flying colors because we are committed to our processes.
